Rewilding 2022 Week 13/52: Artemis, Moon Studies and Archery
While sharing in a lively conversation about traditional archery over a cup of tea with my friend Karin Seabert Olsen, founder of @moonhillmysteryschool she suggested that I take a deep dive into studying Artemis, Goddess of the moon and the hunt. I am switching from a compound bow to a beautifully crafted longbow made from Oregon Myrtle and English Walnut for the fall hunting season. Her suggestion was welcomed as I felt it would be appropriate to read the mythology surrounding a Greek Goddess who was deeply connected to the animals and revered as a master of the hunt.
Given that Artemis is associated with the moon, it was also timely that Karin was offering a course this last April 1 (the new moon), in which we learned about the phases and energetic effects we might feel through the waning and waxing of this orb in our sky. I learned how to make moon water to harness the moons energy and am using this infusion in my morning elixir.
Given that the moon affects our tides, weather, the hours in the day, our internal biological rhythms, our sleep cycle, our mood and the gravitational pull on Earth, it feels appropriate to learn more about our celestial connections as integral to rewilding. Ancient cultures observed the changing moon in relationship to Earth and I feel drawn to do the same.
Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and twin sister of Apollo. She was the protector of animals, who would dwell in places of nature, harnessing that energy to rest and regain strength.
I like her style....
For those interested, April 30 is the next new moon and according to Karin a potent time to start something new, begin new projects, implement new strategies, reestablish supportive practices or try something you have been wanting to do. May I suggest archery?
