Field Notes from Jess ~ Rewilding in 2021 | Week 52/52 | FallDec 31, 2021
Final Field Notes Of 2021!
Rewilding Field to Table
I am preparing my New Year's Eve dinner....Duck! With Garlic rosemary French bread and roasted carrots with potatoes I am thrilled to feast with my My two boys tonight as I serve wild game from yesterday's waterfowl hunt.
Good friends and mentors joined me in my own home town as we geared up in our winter camo and took on the low temps and snow for an exciting day of duck hunting! Joel Turner with Shot IQ is the two-time state champion duck caller in Washington State so I got to observe him in action....Badass!!!! His brother Matt Turner brought the decoys and not only was it a wonderful learning experience but we had a damn good time. Joel's son @bodie_turner had a successful shot as well as both Turner brothers. We left the field with two beautiful Mallards and one Widgeon. I was able to take a few shots on the 12 gauge but have some work to do to improve my skills. First opportunity, I forgot to take off the safety and missed taking a shot. Second chance I was so excited I wasn't even looking down the barrel… Just head up in the sky with a big smile on my face watching the birds and trying to fit in with these pros.
I couldn't be more grateful for the good times with great friends and the opportunity to harvest food. Rewilding my life one week at a time has changed me and I am not the same person I was on January 1, 2021. I Jumped in with both feet, learning everything I could this year about fishing, foraging, hunting And what my good friend @northwest.resilience calls "Direct Living Skills". This is a rewarding path And leads to increased resiliency, strength of mind and a general sense of well-being. To REWILD is to turn the dial away from fear-based living into increased aliveness thanks to a more intimate engagement with the natural world. My heart is on fire!
2022 we REWILD together!
Thank you so much for joining me on this epic journey. We are all connected and have the power to lift others with an open heart and open mind. I feel your care and support. Thank you!
With love and gratitude,
