INTRO TO FISH TANNING

January 27 + February 3 (2-part course) | 6-8:30 PM | $125

Learn the process of transforming raw fish skins into a beautiful, durable textile that can be used to make clothing, pouches, wallets, footwear, art and anything you would use leather for.   

In this two part class, we will explore tanning with tannins using supplies you will find around your home. You will learn everything you need to know to have your own Home Tannery and enjoy a new connection to an old ancestral skill. Work alongside instructor Janey Chang (FB + IG @janeychangart), an artist and educator with a passion for reviving the almost forgotten skill of making fish leather. All are welcome - no experience required! 

NOTE: This class is two sessions and will be held virtually on Zoom. You will receive email updates from instructor Janey with a supplies list and the Zoom link after registering.

Janey is highly regarded as an educator and will share the history of fish tanning from around the world. Participants will hear stories about the human relationship and connection with salmon as well as complete the tanning process from beginning to end.
